I have played guitar since I was 8 years old, and found myself start to experiment with open tunings in my teenage years. I fell into the open tuning world and, thinking it was the only way to create harmonically different songs, I started writing one song per tuning. This means I would play shows where I would change tuning between every single song. I know — way too much tuning. And so hard on the strings!

Inevitably, with this method I broke my strings almost bi-weekly. I didn’t want to throw out the barely used strings because they felt important, like their time of being art wasn’t up yet. One day, my sister twirled up a broken guitar string into a circle and put it on as a ring. I noticed the bead on the string and thought, 'You could easily put a hook through that bead and make them earrings.’ So a few days later, I did.

Thus began my journey of making jewelry with instrument strings. I bought some wire and sealed the loose ends, started creating wire designs, and branched out into bracelets, necklaces, etc. Now I don’t change my tuning far as much as I did in my adolescence, but I gather old strings from the throw away bins at instrument stores, clean them off, and repurpose them into something beautiful :)
